先日オレンジカウンティー（ロサンゼルスから南に約一時間）パフォーミングアーツセンターに スターウォーズ、インディージョーンズ、E.T.そしてさゆりなどなど、ハリウッドの大作映画の曲を提供してきた作曲家、ジョン・ウィリアムズの追悼コンサートに先日行って来た。
コンサート会場もなかなかよく、会場にはスターウォーズファンがダースベーターなどの衣装をまとって。

革命

ウィキによれば「革命」とは


革命（かくめい）とは、主として民衆・被支配階級が主体となって超法規的手段によって国家・政府（支配階級）を倒し、国家体制を変更させることである。

また、「産業-」「農業-」のように、従来の思想や技術、方式がひっくり返る様を示す語尾にも使われる（なお、既存の技術や発想から飛びぬけた発展を革命的とも言う）。

「革命」の語は近年はやや過激な印象を与えるため、最近の事象では以前ならば革命と称しうるような出来事でも「民主化運動」などという言い方がされることが多い。

概要 [編集]

近代以降は、社会思想の普及につれ、市民革命・共産主義革命・民族独立革命・イスラム革命などを指して使われることが多い。

西洋における「revolution（革命）」概念 [編集]

英語ではrevolutionだが､revolutionは古くは「回転」（「再回転」）という意味であり、古きよき（現在よりも人々が清らかであろう神による創世により近い）時代へ戻る政治改革の意味として使われていた（古き良き法）。歴史の進歩という観念が生まれてから、新しい体制への大規模な改革という意味が一般的となった。即ち、この立場からは「半回転」して新体制に革（あらた）まることがrevolutionであり、「もう半回転」して元に戻ってしまう原義のrevolutionは、counterrevolution（反革命）として否定的に評価される。しかし、ハンガリー動乱（英:Hungarian Revolution）のように当時は反革命として否定されていても、後に革命であったと再評価される例もある。また、クーデターを保守革命とすることもある。

東洋における「革命」概念 [編集]

革命は、必ずしも西ヨーロッパ諸国の市民革命、共和制国家を樹立した革命、東ヨーロッパ諸国の民主化革命ばかりを指すのではない。しかし、このことはrevolutionの訳語として「革命」が選択されたという経緯があり、それゆえ、古来からの伝統的な語としての「革命」と訳語としての「革命」との間で混乱があるといえる。しかしこれは翻訳語全般にわたる問題である。

語源 [編集]

漢語での「革命」の語源は、天命が改まるという意味である（「命（天命）を革（あらた）める」）。

古代中国では易姓革命など東洋での王朝交代一般を指す言葉であった。東洋においては革命と王朝交代はほぼ同一の概念であったが、西洋においては革命が起きなくても王朝が交代することもあり、革命と王朝交代は同一の概念ではない。

そのため、西洋では「反革命」と表現されるものも東洋では「革命」とされることもあり、現在の「革命」という語が進歩的かつ革新的、現代的なポジティヴなイメージばかりの意味で強調されるのは必ずしも正しくない。

讖緯説における革命概念 [編集]

また未来予言の方法として発展した讖緯説においては、革命は緯書（予言書）に予め記載されており、特に辛酉の年には必ず革命が発生して政治・社会の変革を伴うと唱えられた。これに対して有徳の君主は緯書の定めた通りに行動することによって易姓革命などを未然に回避出来ると考えられた。その一環として辛酉、後には甲子の年にも改元が行われて君主が率先して政治・社会の変革の意志を明らかにすることが行われた（「辛酉革命」・「甲子革令」）。

日本における革命 [編集]

中国大陸は多くの革命を経験しており、また朝鮮半島やベトナムでも革命は起こっているが、それらに比して日本では、有史以来革命が起こったことがないとされている。江戸時代の山崎闇斎（『泰山集』）や水戸学の藤田東湖（『弘道館記述義』）のように、日本は天照大神以来の万世一系の皇統を持つ唯一無二の国家であるとして、易姓革命を否定して国粋主義を高揚させる逆説的な論理で用いられることもあった。ただし、クーデターの類とされるものは多数起きており、その中には他国の革命に相当するほどの劇的な政治体制の変化が起きたこともある（壬申の乱など）。

吉田松陰の思想を背景として起こった明治維新は保守革命ともいわれ、あるいはまた西欧でいうクーデターとは異なる独自の意味として「維新」を考える学説もある（藤田省三、松本健一ら）。なお明治維新の英訳語は「王政復古」という意味で「Meiji Restoration」である。また北一輝らの民族主義ないし国家社会主義的革命理論では、天皇および国体を真正のものへと変革（革命）することが目指された。三島由紀夫も陽明学の影響のもとに、保守革命を企画した。

いずれにせよ、近代の訳語としての「革命」に対して、明治維新で成立した大日本帝国政府は徹底的な弾圧を行った。大逆事件に見られるごとく、政府への批判、なかんずく民主主義や共和制を主張する者を「天皇への敵」として烈しく弾圧した。また、敗戦後の占領下でも、共産主義運動による国家分断を恐れたGHQによってレッドパージが行われ、鎮圧以降も、近代的な意味での革命を志向していた新左翼運動への公安対策がとられた。政治学者の藤田省三はこうした日本における革命概念の忌避と天皇制国家の支配原理とを踏まえて論じている^[1]。
